Actually, as presented, it suggests the quite recognizable British (and Anglican) spiritual muddle, sharply critiqued in the last century by both G.K. Chesterton and C.S. Lewis. Instead of Good vs. Evil, we are confronted with Good vs. Boring vs. Evil.

The antidotes: Meditation on the Book of Job. Or Friedrich Nietzsche. But its not an antidote to recommend to children.
