Bob Drogin and Greg Miller at the LA Times have a compelling account of the bureaucratic infighting over the reliability of the Iraqi source known as Curveball. At this point it is impossible to know the truth. It is clear (see my previous post) that somebody did not want the doubts about Curveball's veracity passed up the chain of command. It looks like this was the most serious intelligence failure. Had the doubts been surfaced at the policy level, the war against Saddam might not have been fought - or at least fought differently.
