I’m attending to this story about religious bias at the AF Academy for several reasons:
• The mainstream media seems to be convinced that it is evidence of an Evangelical plot to take over America
• It provides a test case for what is, and is not, appropriate expressions of religious belief in the workplace
• It raises questions of institutional mindset and the ability of an institution to reform itself.
I hope to write some more, later. If you are following this story, here are some links:
• Josh White’s story in this morning’s WaPo.
• Today’s NYT editorial titled “Obfuscating Intolerance.”
• A transcript of the Air Force news conference with Michael Dominguez, Acting Secretary of the Air Force General John Jumper, Air Force Chief of Staff; Lieutenant General Roger Brady, Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel; Brigadier General Fred Ruggero, Director, Air Force Public Affairs)
• An Inside Higher Ed report containing links to pdf files of the Air Force and Americans United for Separation of Church and State,
• My June 9 posting.
• My Spero News column on May 16, suggesting some approaches to the question.
