According to JIm Shore, the General Cousel of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, both the tribe and Florida State University (FSU) have benefited by having the school use the Seminole tribe. So, I repeat my quote from Ricky Nelson's Garden Party,
I went to a Garden Party
To reminisce with my old friends
A chance to share old memories
and play our songs again.When I got to the Garden Party
They all knew my name
But no one recognized me
I didn't look the same.But it's all right now.
I learned my lesson well.
You see you can't please everyone
So you got to please yourself.
FSU can't please the NCAA with its use of a native American name and they are pleasing the Seminoles and themselves. Maybe the NCAA officials should just give up its concern with political correctness in mascots and team names. There must be other, more important work for them to do.
