On the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time (September 2) we will hear four readings urging us to show our faith by our works. In Dt. 4:1-8 Moses Speaks of the the decrees and laws and admonishes Israel:
Observe them carefully…
In Psalm 15 we will hear
Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent? … The one whose walk is blameless
. In James 1:22 we hear:
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
In the Gospel extracts, (Mk 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23) we are urged not to be hypocrites, putting up a mask of being good and holy people while failing to actually do anything for our neighbor.
