Tom,
The comparison is, admittendly, imprecise. the biggest imprecision comes from the fact that an editor is, arguably responsible for the culutre of a newspaper. No one bishop is responsible for the culture of the church.
I plan to write more on this, following Gregory Pierce's suggestion that one of the major disciplines in spirituality@work is to shape the culture.

Tom

The comparison of bishops and editors is inapt. A diocese is not a newspaper. A bishop shouldn't resign his office because of the venality of one of his priests.

Which isn't to say the behavior of every American bishop over the past few years has been exemplary.
