Washington Post writer Walter Pincus has a front page story on Administration plans for a pre-emptive nuclear strike. Pincus does not address salient just war questions.
The Roman Catholic Bishops (and leaders for other faiths) should be raising questions. Does this plan satisfy the just war criteria of last resort and legitimate authority?
For some background, check my postings on May 24, 2005 and August 22, 2005. This posting was also included in the Catholic Carnival for August 23, 2005.
By speaking out, the Bishops could stimulate journalists and Congress to ask the right questions. Based on past experience, I’ll bet that the bishops won’t speak up until it is too late.
